Patounis Soap Works is a historic, family-owned soap factory in Corfu Town that has been producing traditional olive oil soaps since 1891. The business dates back even further, to the mid-19th century, and has been passed down through five generations. What sets Patounis apart is its dedication to time-honoured methods: the factory still operates with original 19th-century equipment, using manual techniques and recipes that have remained virtually unchanged.

All soaps are made with 100% natural ingredients, primarily olive oil, without chemical additives, artificial fragrances, or preservatives. These qualities make Patounis soaps particularly suitable for sensitive skin and eco-conscious users. The factory has gained official recognition from the Greek Ministry of Culture as a protected monument of industrial heritage.

Visitors can take guided tours of the working factory, where they can observe the soap-making process in detail—from boiling and mixing the oils, to cutting, stamping, and drying the bars. The tour offers not only a glimpse into a traditional craft, but also a deeper understanding of the role soap once played in everyday life and local economy.

Patounis is more than a workshop—it is a living tradition, preserving Corfu’s industrial and cultural identity through one of the oldest and most sustainable forms of craftsmanship.
